Hi Cuties,

Shana tovah! In light of the new year, I want to make a change. I have been neglecting this tribe, and think it is about time I gave the reigns to someone who will give it more love than I.

If you want it to be you, send me an email. I'll decide in about a week.

Love and honey,
Juliet

9th Queeruption in Tel-Aviv August 2006

9th Queeruption in Tel-Aviv August 2006
www.queeruption.org/q2006

In the last Queeruption* in Barcelona there was a proposal by present Israeli queers to hold the next Queeruption in Tel-Aviv, which was welcome by activists from the Middle East, Europe and North America. The initiative came from our belief that as queers we view ourselves as part of the global struggle for freedom, justice and self determination.

Thousands of LGBT people are expected to attend the World Pride event in Jerusalem in August 2006. This event is also used as a chance for the Israeli office of foreign affairs to hide the government’s war crimes behind a rainbow flag. The slogan of the World Pride Parade is “Love Without Borders”. We believe that love without borders should reject fences and walls, occupation, Apartheid, social injustice and ecological destruction. Ther e has been a global call to boycott this event by various Palestine solidarity groups as well. We feel that it is important to push our solidarity further by coming to Israel and Palestine for a celebration of our diversity, empowerment and resistance.

This is the first time that Queeruption takes place outside the borders of rich western states. This Queeruption will also extend beyond the centralized location in Tel-Aviv, to the West Bank and to spice up the World Pride parade in Jerusalem. There are also possibilities for people interested in staying longer to join solidarity work in the area which we will provide links to. There will be also a group who will come to Tel-Aviv some time before the event to help set things up.

Given the social and cultural situation there are a lot of issues to be considered and discussed during the preparation process and through the event. We need your help, whether you are coming or not, with fundraising, publicity, knowledge, ideas and skills or on ground preparation.

For this, or if you have any further questions or comments please contact by subscribing the new mailing list of the Queeruption. Send a mail to: majordomo@lists.queeruption.org wi th the words: subscribe queeruption9tel-aviv in the body of the message.

For more information and languages check our new website (which is still under construction): www.queeruption.org/q2006

* Queeruption is a do-it-yourself, anti-commercial, non-hierarchal, safe and open space for workshops, music, art, actions, parties, sex, performances and everything you propose and/or prepare. Queeruption welcomes and celebrates all gender identities and sexualities, with no toleration to sexism, macho behavior, racism, hetrophobia, homophobia, transphobia, discrimination based on different abilities or ages and any form of aggression.

SF: Bring a friend to CSZ eve. Wanna come?

I was wondering if anyone from this list or beyond would be up for coming to services with me on Friday, March 4th, San Francisco.
I really like going but have been a slacker and would love/adore/appreciate the company. Plus there's cheese and wine, what could be bad about that?
Let me know, ya hear?
Abi

BRING A FRIEND TO CSZ!

Friday, March 4

As part of Shabbat Across America, a nation-wide effort to help people connect to a Jewish community, we are asking all members to bring one friend who might be interested in the family, fun and friendship of our CSZ community.

7:00 pm - Casual wine and cheese reception

8:15 pm - Kabbalat Shabbat services, filled with music and spirit

So why, besides our general fabulousness, might you want to come to CSZ?

Tradition with a Modern Twist - We take our Jewish heritage seriously, but we’re also not afraid to add to it, expand it and make it our own.

Education - An amazing religious school for children, a wealth of classes, seminars and discussions for adults.

We are Community - Schmooze, nosh, make friends. Maybe you'll meet someone special. Who knows?

We are Family - Our friends become our family; we’re there for each other in times of celebration and in times of sorrow.

Tikkun Olam - Accept the challenge to help make the world a better place.

Diversity - We have Jews of every age, background and sexual identity. And 400 opinions on almost any topic.

You can be your whole self - Integrate your Jewishness with your LGBT-ness and any other -ness.

A cozy alternative to the big Reform shuls - We're big enough to do all the important things, small enough that you won't get lost in the crowd. Can you say haimish?

Ruach - Doesn't your soul need a little nourishment too? Come for the music, stay for the inspiration.

Why not? - You've tried acupuncture, astrology and Deepak Chopra. Why not give the Torah a chance? It can be the tree of life if you let it.

Hi,
Just wanted to see if anyone was up for going to services at sha'ar zahav tomorrow (ok, i guess it's tonight) eve. I'll be one of the greeters welcoming in folks and I'd love to meet some of you there (that is, if you're in sf). I think that post, some friends and I were contemplating hitting "hot pants" or something queer and dance-oriented like that. Wanna come with? Services are at 7:30pm. This week's drash will be given by the artist, Shimon Attie. It should be fab! Peace out, Abi
------------------------------

Internationally known installation artist and photographer Shimon Attie uses contemporary media to create art installations in public places, which give visual form to Jewish memory and history, as well as to that of other marginalized communities. Shimon's work is featured in premier galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This acclaimed artist will present and discuss his work with the CSZ community at our Artist in Residence Weekend.

Making this place more roaring

First of all, I must apologize. As your official moderator, or whatever, i have been neglectful of this tribe and have not checked back in a while. I'll try to be more attentive to all of you cute queer yids.
Second, I believe it was Scruffy who pointed out that this place should be roaring. Based on that, I have a suggestion to make it so:
Invite your friends to join. Really. You can. Know a fagelah? Send him or her (can women be fagelahs? why not, i say!) an invitation to join our tribe.
You know what that will do? It will make this place more interesting, give us all more people to chat with, hit on, check out, etc. It will make everything more fun. So...get sending!
Thanks everyone! Meanwhile, thanks to all of you for the interesting postings about holidays, bubbies, etc.

To help Juliett out, I've got a bunch of questions... (because what good jew doesn't question... or answer questions with more questions?)

1) Is being Jewish or being Queer more important in your life? How do you balance the two?

2) Do you date other jews? Is it easy or difficult to meet other jews to date, especially if you're queer and NOT in the Bay Area?

3) Are you culturaly or spiritually/religiously jewish, or both? Culturaly or sexually queer or both?

4) Does either your Judaism or Queerness help you to regard issues that fall outside traditional J or Q spaces? i.e. terrorism, censorship, media, economics, race issues, environmental issues, etc.

Please note that the subject heading is redundant ;)

I'll answer my own questions in a later post.

xoxo Milo
